Otorhinolaryngology is subdivided into areas of differentiation such as voice, vertigo and balance, sleep disorders, among others.

Among diseases of the ears, nose and throat

in which Otorhinolaryngology

intervene are, for example:

Deafness or hearing loss

Tinnitus or tinnitus (ringing in the ears)

In 2014, Prof. Dr. Armin Moniri, Otorhinolaryngologist, was awarded by the Queen of Sweden for the development of a non-invasive method for treating serous otitis.

The Moniri Device helps avoid surgery in 80% of serous otitis cases.

The Moniri Device is a device that, appearing to be a toy, helps the child to balance pressure and ventilate the middle ear, preventing the formation of serous otitis.

What is serous otitis?

Serous otitis is an accumulation of fluid behind the eardrum without signs of ear infection. The liquid reduces the mobility of the eardrum causing a lack of hearing.

What is the cause of serous otitis?

The communication between the ear and the nose is called the Eustachian tube. The tube allows drainage of liquid and compensation for changes in pressure. Serous otitis is caused by improper functioning of the Eustachian tube in children.

Predisposing factors for serous otitis include: age between 2-5 years, attendance at daycare, siblings, smoking parents, known allergic disease, recurrent colds.

Is it normal to have serous otitis?

Almost all children have at least one episode that may justify a medical consultation for clinical evaluation and additional diagnostic tests.

What treatments are there for serous otitis?

Self-inflation treatment, to open the Eustachian tube with increased pressure in the nose, helps drain fluid in the ear and restore hearing.

Surgical treatment with placement of ventilation tubes into the eardrum is performed under general anesthesia and is considered if non-surgical treatment is not effective.

How can serous otitis be cured?

Even with effective treatment, serous otitis may recur after a new cold,

an episode of ear infections or an allergic reaction. The only definitive cure is the growth and development of the Eustachian tube in adolescence.

What is the Moniri Device?

Moniri is a new self-inflation device allowing treatment in children. Clinical studies show that up to 80% of surgeries can be avoided using this treatment.

An accredited treatment.

The inventor of the Moniri device, Prof. Dr. Armin Moniri, developed and tested this innovative treatment during his doctoral thesis at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. Treatment with the Moniri device shows efficacy comparable to surgical treatment, without any adverse effects.

The patented treatment received the attention of Her Excellency Queen Silvia of Sweden, with the inventor being awarded.

Dr. Armin Moniri, PhD, has specialized training in Facial Plastic Surgery, having mastered both aspects of Rhinoplasty, functional and aesthetic.

The main difference between aesthetic and functional nose surgery lies in the objectives that are intended to be achieved by carrying it out.

Aesthetic rinoplasty aims to improve the appearance of the nose and, consequently, facial harmony. The main changes that can be made are to the tip and back of the nose, in addition to modifying its size and shape.

Functional surgeries correct the internal and anatomical structures of the nose, aiming to improve the patient's breathing.

Among the most common problems that can be corrected with functional nose surgery are :

Deviated septum

Sinus pathologies, such as chronic sinusitis and sinonasal polyposis

Hypertrophy of the nasal turbinates and adenoids

Fissures or trauma to the nose

Although we approach aesthetic and functional nose surgery as two isolated situations, they are often performed simultaneously.

If you have a change in nasal function, why not take advantage and correct function and aesthetics in a single act?

The evolution of rhinoplasty techniques currently allows a less invasive approach, without leaving any visible scars.

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure performed in an operating room, under general anesthesia. Does not require hospitalization.

Consultation dedicated to vertigo , the feeling that an individual's body or the environment is moving. More often they are rotatory (the feeling that the environment is moving around the patient), but sometimes they can manifest themselves as a feeling of imbalance to one side.

Vertigo, dizziness and imbalance are very common complaints that most people experience at least at some point in their lives.

They undoubtedly worsen with aging, since the balance organ also changes over time and may show signs of aging (presbyvertigo).

However, complaints of vertigo , dizziness and imbalance can appear at any age and have a wide range of causes.

Therefore, early and correct diagnosis is very important for the treatment and prognosis of vertigo.

If we don't get a good night's rest, our health will suffer. Failure to treat sleep disorders can lead to serious long-term health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes or accelerate other degenerative processes.

An apnea is a total or partial interruption of the airway for more than 10 seconds and does not allow it to rest properly.

Some of the most common signs in everyday life are tiredness in the morning, constant drowsiness, problems concentrating, and morning headaches.

Other symptoms that can be observed by other people, such as partners, are agitation and excessive movement during sleep, loud snoring, sporadic breathing, among others.

If you think you have sleep apnea, it is important to schedule an Otorhinolaryngology consultation so that a correct diagnosis can be made and so that you can begin treatment and begin to take advantage of the benefits of better sleep and a healthier life.

To confirm the diagnosis, the torhinolaryngologist will prescribe a Sleep Study , an exam that you can carry out comfortably at home, while you sleep.

This test measures the number of times you experience apnea (when you stop breathing for a while) or hypopnea (when you stop breathing partially for a while) while you are sleeping.

The mandibular advancement device (DAM)

consists of a removable dental appliance

for the treatment of snoring and mild to moderate sleep apnea.

The DAM is placed in the mouth during sleep and allows repositioning of the lower jaw and tongue in order to increase the space for air to pass through the throat.

The DAM is a small and practical device, without electrical components and masks, and is customized by a dentist qualified in oral sleep medicine.

Discover a range of treatments that will help you recover your well-deserved rest.

If you suffer from sleep apnea there are different treatment options, the most common being treatment with CPAP or AutoCPAP.

A CPAP (Continuous positive air pressure) is a device that, through a turbine, blows air with positive pressure into our upper airways.

This air pressure is achieved through a conductive tube and a mask that fits over the nose and/or mouth.

This airflow keeps the airways open so that air can flow into the lungs allowing breathing.

These treatments are minimally invasive. To make therapy easier and more comfortable, there is a wide range of masks and accessories.

If, after carrying out the sleep study, the Otorhinolaryngologist recommends these treatments, you will be redirected to the company TerapiaCPAP, as they have the most modern and technologically advanced equipment.

This company specializes in the treatment and monitoring of sleep apnea, with more than 20 years of proven experience in treating thousands of patients.

It consists of determining the mobility of the tympanic-ossicular system of the middle ear depending on gradual pressure variations in the external auditory canal.

How is it carried out?

A probe with a rubber end is placed inside the ear, which causes a sensation of excess pressure inside the ear, and a curve is recorded that allows us to determine the existence of infections in the middle ear, as well as the nature of hearing loss.
